Seamless autoscaling for real

It’s important that an online store has enough capacity to match the incoming traffic. If you’re lacking computer resources the shop will probably crash. Although, having too much capacity (more than you actually need) can become very expensive. For many companies, finding the right solution is a balancing act.

Autoscaling is a way to reduce and increase the amount of computer resources required for the online store. In other words, the capacity is tailored to the exact needs. This means that the visitor always gets a speed-optimized experience at the same time as the scaling contributes to a cost-effective operation. It is a way to avoid having technicians in place who are constantly working on the right capacity of the site. That problem disappears with the automated scaling process.

Sometimes it is possible to predict when the traffic will increase – in those cases it is also possible to plan for the strain that might mean for the site. This means that you scale up for a peak in advance, and then return to the regular capacity. But in many cases, the traffic is unbound and uncontrolled, which makes it difficult to plan for and determine how much data resources should be allocated. Autoscaling is the solution to that problem.

Updated in real time

Elastycloud's autoscaling of data resources takes place with 60-second intervals. This means that the resources will always be adjusted with minimal delay. Every minute, every day – all year round. The real time updating of the data resources happens completely automatically and scales both up and down.

Previously, server capacity was scaled after email contact or calls. Something that usually took hours or days to change. Today, it is done per minute via an automated scaling process. As autoscaling is integrated into Elastycloud's system, it is not noticeable and does not require any further work by the developer or operations manager.
